Q- How much does it cost for me to publish with Strawberry?

A- Uh, nothing. We are not a vanity publisher. You don’t pay us a penny. We make our money when you make yours.

Q- What is the royalty split?

A- We split royalties with our authors 50/50.

Q- How do you afford that?

A- Here’s the catch; we don’t pay our authors advances. When you sell books, you make money. Same for us.

Q- What does the publishing process look like?

A- See our “Publish with Strawberry” page. However, in short, you write the book. We edit it, do cover design, and publish your book. We help you market, navigate selling your book to book stores, and get it all for sale on Amazon. You bring us your community, and they buy your book. You make 50% royalties on every book you sell.

Q- How long does it take to publish with Strawberry?

A- It depends. If your manuscript is already super clean, then our editors will be through it quickly. At that point, it’s all about building the book. Minimum turnaround time is three months. Most will take six months from offer to publication.

Q- Who owns the rights to my book?

A- Strawberry Publishing. The key is you own the rights to your story, we own the rights to publish it. That means you get to approve the cover design, you approve the final manuscript, you own your story. We publish and own the ISBN for your book.

Q- How much money can I make publishing with Strawberry?

A- Honestly? Probably not much. The Book Industry is very saturated, and for every book on the shelf, there are hundreds of similar titles competing for an audience. Your best bet is to build a community of fans who look forward to reading your work. Stay in contact with them, offer them incentives to being a fan (early release info, cover reveals, etc). Your books can find an audience, it just takes effort. Strawberry puts all our books on our website and social media too, which helps!

Q- So why bother publishing?

A- There’s value in stories, in art, and in sharing creativity. It feels amazing to know that your work is out in the world. We wish we could guarantee seven figure income for all our authors, but it’s just not how publishing works these days. Yes, someone could make a living writing and publishing with Strawberry, but we can’t guarantee it. We want to get your story out to the world, because we believe in the power of art. It may seem pessimistic, but we don’t believe in false promises. Most authors do not make a living writing.

Q- This seems really futile. What’s the point?

A- We’ve asked ourselves the same question. The point is, our authors are talented artist, and we want to give them the power to share that talent.

Q- Why are you called “Strawberry Publishing?”

A- Strawberries as we know them today are hybrids. The work that went into cultivating them over centuries has produced delicious sweet fruit  we love. This is how we feel about publishing– cultivate it from what has been into what it can be in the future. We’re here to bring new ideas to publishing and produce sweet works for the world.
